Baltimore delivered a commanding performance in their preseason Week 3 game, routing the Washington Redskins 49-0 at home on August 21. Head Coach Joseph Roland’s Ravens offense efficiently moved the ball, piling up 407 passing yards and 192 rushing yards while scoring on every touchdown opportunity.
Quarterback Sam Daniels led the aerial attack, completing 29 of 37 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns. Daniels connected early on a 51-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver John Condon just over two minutes into the game, giving Baltimore a 7-0 lead after Ryan McSweeney’s extra point. Condon finished with 167 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns, underscoring the Ravens’ versatile offense. Another major contributor was Brian Delvalle, who shifted roles admirably, contributing 169 rushing yards alongside 45 receiving yards and scoring one receiving touchdown.
The Ravens offense continued to overwhelm the Redskins throughout the first half. Jason Mahony added a rushing touchdown and totaled 22 receiving yards. McSweeney was perfect on his field goal attempts, nailing both kicks, including a 41-yard field goal just before halftime to extend the lead to 17-0.
Baltimore’s defensive unit complemented the offensive dominance by applying constant pressure on the Redskins. The Ravens recorded nine sacks as a team. Strong linebacker Justin Chiaramonte accounted for two of those sacks. The defense limited Washington quarterback Jerry Guinyard to a mere 41 passing yards with one interception, while also forcing a fumble recovered by Kenneth Radford, though Radford’s team struggled overall.
Washington’s offense was stifled, failing to score or sustain drives. The Redskins managed only 41 passing yards and 37 rushing yards, with no touchdowns. Their four sacks and one forced fumble were insufficient to shift momentum in their favor. Penalties also plagued both teams, with Baltimore committing seven for 47 yards and Washington eight for 44 yards. Neither team converted any third downs.
Special teams saw typical exchanges of punts, with Ravens punter Billy Sinclair pinning the Redskins deep several times, helping maintain Baltimore’s field position advantage.
Joseph Roland’s team executed efficiently on both sides of the ball to earn a decisive victory as the preseason nears its conclusion. The Ravens will look to build on this commanding performance heading into the regular season. Washington’s offense will need significant adjustments after being held scoreless over four quarters.
