I designed this league, to replicate the real NFL as closely as I can, with the thought of using heavy doses of overrides to make your offense or defense unpredictable. You can use any player at any position, even if he's out of position, at any time during a game. Use your imagination to design a perfect, scheme, that won't fall under any rules set by other players, if designed properly. Think Mike Martz and his "Greatest Show on Turf" offense. McVey's wild offensive schemes. Air Coryell and his bombs away game plans. Paul Brown's "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense (it also helped that he had Otto Graham and Jim Brown on the same team for all those years). '86 Bears defensive scheme. Have at it and have fun!!! I know I will!!!
The only thing is, if you want more of a simulation, then rosters should reflect that also, which was the intent but got out of hand when the speed exploit started, and where there are no roster requirements, like a TE in the TE1 and 2 positions, you get a roster thats half WR and CB. My hope is that JDB puts in a control, either in general or for league admins for minimum roster requirements, same as salary and max number of players, max number of starters. Would also like to see the speed attribute advantage reduced, so you dont have a 40 rated WR leading the league in rushing and avg per carry. Where your draft selections matter more than they do now. One of the best players in the game uses maximum speed exploit and trades all his draft picks away, you know who Kos.
lol Koz, we both do in MFN 7, but ykwho takes it to a whole nother level, in addition to overide placement with meaningless positions on player card. So its either more of a sim for NFL or for Pop Warner (where 2 or 3 kids dominate the stats). So, if you want it to be like MFN 7, then no roster restrictions. Ive been asking for league admin roster and play selection/use options for over 6 years now, ha. Otherwise, forget it, to get 100% compliance is highly, highly unlikely.
I think this is a fun league, but forgive me for saying this league does not replicate the real nfl. I wish it did, but like grandad said, it would be tough to enforce and you would need 32 honest and dedicated owners (unless the site allows commissioners to set those rules?). For the record, I've been playing my players pretty much at their drafted designated positions, with the exception of a couple interpositional (is that a word?) group changes before camp. Surely it may not be a championship winning formula. I accept that and will challenge myself to win games with the cards I'm dealt at the position group they were drafted at. To me, that's more realistic. Everyone else have fun and do your thing =)

Meh, I get what you're saying GDB, and have for a long time. The game is very easy to "manipulate". The thing I find most intriguing, and it's certainly not "Pop Warner" football, is the gameplaning aspect, and how my SS might shut down your TE passing game, or my CB can get an edge on your WR because of 100 B&R and 100 accel.
The smart coaches can look beyond the "Pop Warner" philosophy that you alluded to, but then find other good mismatches.
People that b1.tch about speed can be free to b1.tch - but it's been the cornerstone of most team sports for years.
So, is it best to have position rules in place so players on offense can only play offense positions and defense players only play defense? Adhere to the basic weight guidelines that are used in most leagues? I admit, that in MFN 7, I do play players out of position, MLB playing LDE (for example). Doesn't the NFL do the same thing when they use LB's in DE positions during blitz packages? Thinks Suggs from Baltimore. I guess that's the portion of the game I was trying to emulate when putting this league together. Not necessarily changing all your players LB's to CB's as I've seen done in other leagues. Lining up a FB, in FB position, into a TE, WR, or DT slot, makes life interesting, no? I''d like to hear more on everyone's thoughts about the topic of positioning of players. Thanks.

what made me like this league was not having to check and double check rules when setting up my depth chart. I don't do it, but it has happened in NFL WR play CB (Travis Hunter) I think let people do what they think is best for their team. If an obvious glitch (like the punt block situation) a few years back happens then maybe make adjustments. but I am not seeing any crazy things happening here yet
That's the way I set it up and exactly for the reason you mentioned.

I think you could limit the practice without banning it outright. Maybe allow one transition, and that's it? I don't think anybody sane wants people to go back and forth between WR and RB, or between C and G or T, like happens in some leagues, but the abuse of the practice does not mean we should ban the practice altogether.
