While we're talking about famous football players, playing movies/tv shows, let's talk about one of my favorite Rams player, Fred Dryer. He actually starred in this show? Do you know the name of that show?
**** Butkus was in a tv series where he owned a restaurant, I believe (still not looking things up before I type anything), what's the name of that show? It was very controversial at the time but it's a common place situation now.
A defensive back, in his NFL days, he became one of the most famous super heroes of all time? Who was that ex-NFL player and what was the name of the show? The woman who played Lois Lane actually was a San Francisco 49er cheerleader. What was her name? Those two were meant to play this couple in this series.

Dryer was real interesting, to look at him you wouldnt have thought he was an All Pro DE. 6'6, 235 lbs, different game then. Then he followed up a very successful football career with a very successful acting career, most notably "Hunter", the TV detective seires. Born and raised in Southern California, played his college ball at San Diego State under Don Coryell (same Air Coryell/Chargers), after 2 years of Juco at El Camino College (same conference I was in at Mt San Antonio). Amazing guy.

Being a Rams fan, at such an early age (while still liking my hometown Browns), I've been able to watch the original Fearsome Foursome (Jones, Grier, Lundy, M. Olsen). This group was followed by another version of the Fearsome Foursome (Dryer, J. Youngblood, M. Olsen, Brooks). Do you think these two groups were good, wait until the 3rd version of the Fearsome Foursome play this fall (Garrett, Donald, Ford, Davis). I'm not sure if Donald will play the entire situation and, if he does, it just may be in key situations to keep him "fresh" for the playoffs. I would imagine the Rams are the heavy favorites to win it all this year, especially with the motivation of playing on their home turf the way they did when they won their last Super Bowl. If Donald does play more than is currently speculated this Rams team may be end up being better than the Bears D in 1985. If the Rams front office decides to promote the "new fearsome foursome", I will buy one and hang it next to my original fearsome foursome poster. I'm ready for those games to start!!!

same here Koz, grew up as a Charger/Ram fan, suffered the SB loss thanks to idiot Malavasi, they got there no thanks to him. Met a guy who told me that Bradshaw told him that he couldnt believe that the Rams didnt go to double coverage on Stallworth with Swann out, at least have him being jammed at the line. I was saying just that while watching the game with family and friends. They got tired of me saying it. Roman Gabriel was coach at Cal Poly Pomona, where I was with Jim Zorn in 76. He was a horrible HC, lol. They shut down the football program after he finished it off. Lots of stories, my semi pro ones are hilarious. So many "characters" in semi pro ball. One was the Swede, he is etched into my brain. Was in his late 40s early 50s when I was playing in my mid 20s, went both ways on OL and DL, he was ame build as Dryer. Never said a word, rarely came to twice a week practice (most of us had jobs), but knew what to do as good or better than anyone else on OL/DL. Over 15 years later Im watching an ESPN show and a segment comes on called "Mr Football", he was still playing!! I fell out of my chair, went running around the house like the proverbial headless chicken, yellin "he's still playin!!", my wife and kids thought I had lost it, and I did. He was amazing, I cant find the story on him, wish I could. I didnt know his name, other than The Swede (he looked Swedish, lol). We had another guy we called the Skull, thats another story.

See the old guy in the ball cap next to Dryer in the pic? I dont know his real name, but his nickname was Heckles, he was an equipment manager for the Rams. He and his wife owned a real nice restaurant in Pasadena, also called Heckles. I used to have businees lunches there with a guy who worked at Parsons Engineering. He was in his 60s back in the mid 80s. Every time we would go to lunch there, Heckles would have a tall glass of what looked like water waiting at the table. It was iced Vodka!! That old guy was the heaviest drinker I ever met, drank all day. lol. We covered the bill for lunch every time. There were rumors about him nailing female coworkers in the office. Funny how some things are coming back to me after all this time. Memories get triggered, like seeing the picture of Dryer with Heckles, could be a synchronicity type thing. One of the companies that we represented had former Ram LB Rick Kay working for them, he and I became friends and he invited me to a golf tournament for Ye Olde Rams group. It was so great, being at the clubhouse bar with a lot of old famous Rams, Youngblood and Fears were the two who really impressed me the most. My playing partner was Pat Studstill, who I had a great Sports Illustrated pic of him catching a pass in my HS days. We ended up going out to a local bar/night club till closing, ha!

GG OOG/Jets, two returns for TDs, one each. That was a rare punt return by White Shoes, just like the RL Shoes.

Great stories!! Thanks for sharing!! Hanging out with all those famous players, playing golf, tippin' a few brews, and sharing "war" stories of their playing days. I remember Studstill who ended up being the punter for the team. Well, I guess I should start saving my pennies, dimes, and $1,000 bills I have scattered all over this place so I can go see the Rams, in LA, when they make it to the Super Bowl again. Keep those stories, and pics if you've got some, coming. Don't get me started on the Pittsburgh/Rams Super Bowl. Bradshaw was right, the Rams should've had all sorts of player draping over Stallworth. They really didn't have anyone else to throw to. As much as I hate to admit it, Steelers deserved to win that game on that one incredible throw by Bradshaw and that amazing, running forward it good speed, bending back while running, and catching the ball. I was thinking that he wasn't going to catch it, he'll hurt himself because he basically bent himself in two and kept that drive alive.
I never asked you, not sure why, but how did you like living in the San Diego area?

Didnt live in San Diego, but spent a lot of time there, hotels/motels. I worked for a company that reconditioned/repaired the football gear for high schools and colleges, loved that job. San Diego was part of my territory. The most amount of banged up gear that I picked up in one load was from the Marine Base, Camp Pendleton. We used a box van and it was loaded to the hilt, even in the cab, I had gear piled up next to me to where I could barely get into my seat! The load was heavier than the van max load/weight, driving it back to the shop in Santa Fe Springs was crazy, the van was swaying in the far right lane, I wasnt goin fast, didnt go above 55, thought I might break the rear end. The gear from the base was the most damaged helmets and pads that I ever picked up, lol. Their games mustve been crazy. There were several teams on the base, differnet divisions. They were beating each other up pretty good. Loved San Diego, one of my fav places all time.
